Alaina Maher, Class of 2014

'' I graduated in 2014 after 6 amazing years, during which I met some of the craziest and most fun gals that I know. πŸ’š

I miss being in Muckross, the summer evenings spent at hockey and basketball training, and the breaks in between classes where we always made time for a chat with friends, even if that meant being a bit late for your next class. I miss all of the lunchtime birthday celebrations, the sneaky trips to Donnybrook fair and the STUNNING green uniform with white socks and brown Dubes that we grew so fond of over the years.πŸ’š

Some of my favourite memories from my years in Muckross include gathering with everyone in the Sports Hall to learn the hockey chants before slapping on some face paint and heading off to the finals to cheer on the Muckers. I think I can speak for most Muckross alumni when I say that a very near and dear memory is singing the famous Muckross Magnificat at the Start of School mass each year in Donnybrook Church with the entire school.πŸ’š

Since leaving school I moved to Galway for four years where I undertook both my Undergraduate and Post-graduate studies in Law. I absolutely loved Galway and was joined there by a few more Muckers over the years. πŸ’š I am now back living in Dublin and currently finishing up my first set of qualifying exams to train as a solicitor.

Advice to 18-year-old self: Everything works out exactly the way it is meant to; be patient and don’t stress about something if it’s not going the way you thought it might. There is plenty of time to figure things out, take time to reflect on all of the things you have done and learnt so far! Don’t be afraid to do the things you want to, and say YES to more, you never know what’s around the corner – one day you may only be able to chat to your friends over zoom video chats...

Thanks so much Alaina for your lovely words. It's wonderful to read through your memories, and also to see how Muckross has grown over the past few years.
